At Whipped Bakeshop, we pour our hearts into every cake we make, especially wedding cakes. They’re more than just dessert; they’re symbols of joy, celebration, and love shared with family and friends.

Recently, we created a beautiful wedding cake for a couple’s special day. Our team spent hours perfecting every detail, just as we always do.

But when we arrived to deliver the cake, we learned something heartbreaking: the wedding had been canceled, and no one had informed us.

It was one of those moments that stops you in your tracks. We had this gorgeous cake ready to be part of someone’s happiest day, but nowhere for it to go. It was deeply upsetting for our team, not only because of the work involved, but because of what the cake represented.

Still, we couldn’t let something so special go to waste. After considering our options, we decided to donate the cake to the Ronald McDonald House, where families stay while their children receive medical care nearby.

The next day, that same cake brought smiles and a bit of sweetness to families going through unimaginably tough times. Seeing the joy it created reminded us why we do what we do.

Even when plans fall apart, kindness can turn things around.

We’re so grateful to our community and our friends at Ronald McDonald House for helping give this cake a second life.

And for reminding us that love and care always find their way to where they’re needed most.

We recently made a hundreds of logo cookies for the Philadelphia Art Museum’s rebrand event! Known to most Philadelphians as the Art Museum, the famous institution formally changed their name from the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA) to the Philadelphia Art Museum.

The griffin design was inspired by the pediments that adorn the museum’s roof.

We got a little concerned when a guy rushed into Whipped Bakeshop…

Brett looked calm(ish), determined, and very much like a man on a mission.

He said was picking up his wedding cake, but he’d been stuck in traffic and was now slightly behind schedule… for his own wedding. At a cemetery.

(You don’t hear that every day.)

Then he asked, as politely as anyone could: “Can I use your bathroom to change into into my wedding suit?”

Obviously, we said yes. Who could say no to true love and mild chaos?

Five minutes later, Brett came back up looking like a movie groom!

Brett and Catie ordered our 8″ Vintage Frill Cake, which can serve 15-20 guests. They chose vanilla buttermilk cake with our signature vanilla buttercream icing, and opted to add decorative cherries and a tart lemon curd pop of flavor.

At the end of August, we were excited to get an inquiry from clothing and lifestyle brand Free People. We’ve worked with them before on a number of projects, but this occasion was extra special. The team at Free People was hosting an animal rescue “cuddle lounge” at their Navy Yard headquarters. They were partnering with Providence Animal hospital, and they wanted 275 cupcakes with dog and cat faces on them to give to employees and volunteers.

Cuddle Lounge? Rescuing dogs and cats? We’re in!

Our decorator Taylor hand-decorated each of the 275 cupcakes, using many colors of buttercream and a very steady hand.

We also donated a super cute cat and dog custom cake, just because!

We couldn’t attend the event because we were in the middle of a super busy week at Whipped Bakeshop, but hopefully lots of wonderful cats and dogs found their forever homes.

Thanks to Free People and Providence Animal Center for collaborating with us for this charitable (and adorable) event!

We just had to post this custom pancake cake that we made for a really nice customer named Carley. Carley had been dreaming of this cake ever since seeing it on The Great British Bake Off. Her daughter loves pancakes and she was searching for a Philadelphia bakery to attempt the design.

Even though the cake looks like a stack of pancakes, the actual flavor was vanilla chocolate chip cake with signature vanilla buttercream.

Our incredible senior decorator Grace Marullo Bell (seen above) worked with Carley on the order and also decorated the cake.

Carley’s immediate response to seeing the cake? “OMG, we are SO THRILLED.”

Later on, the birthday girl’s grandmother wrote to us and said: “I must say the reaction from my beautiful granddaughter was incredible! Her little sister was all about the buttercream on top. Smiles all around. It turned out so perfect; I could not have asked for a more amazing day. Thank you, thank you!”

Thanks to Carley for the fun order! We were thrilled to make this unique custom cake happen!

We recently got to work with some of our favorite vendor friends (like Atomic Tangerine Films, above) at the gorgeous Barnes Foundation wedding of Lindsay and Harrison. If you’ve ever been to the Barnes as a museum visitor, you know how gorgeous the space can be when it’s used for weddings. We love that they always display our cakes in their Annenberg Court with a stunning courtyard background.

The Barnes Foundation features incredible high ceilings and fabulous architectural details everywhere you look. It really does make us feel like our wedding cakes are works of art, just like the priceless collection of paintings displayed steps away!

Quite frankly, it’s exciting to get a backstage view of the museum as we come through the staff entrance and high security loading dock to deliver cakes. The Barnes Foundation features many, many priceless works by artists like Renoir, Matisse, and Picasso, so it’s serious business. But the Barnes staff is always so welcoming and kind to us as we move big cakes through the building, holding doors and pointing out exactly where we should go. It’s a treat.

This couple chose a unique vertical buttercream texture for their cake, and the incredible team of designers/florists at Sebesta Design added a tasteful cluster of fresh flowers to complete the look. The couple chose our amazing carrot cake and chocolate midnight cake, both paired with our signature vanilla buttercream. One nice thing about textured buttercream wedding cakes is that they can be a wonderful blank canvas for flowers, and the type, amount and arrangement of flowers can completely customize the look to match the rest of your decor. Sometimes we add the flowers on-site, but in this case, the cake was in good hands with Sebesta.

Last but not least, we must mention that it was a treat to work with our wedding planner friend Christiane Lehman of Truly You Events. Chrissy has worked with us countless times over the years, and she always gives us a big hug at every event (we even made her wedding cake in 2012). She’s one of those special wedding pros who is not only a fabulous planner from a logistical and design point of view, but also just a flat out good person to be around. Chrissy makes everyone around her feel noticed, and she always knows just what to say or do to energize the huge teams of people that come together to make spectacular weddings happen. She is a 5-star (maybe even 6-star) wedding planner and friend.

Experience, and/or willingness to learn skills such as:

• Torting, filling and icing perfectly level cakes
• Mixing beautiful colors
• Modeling 3D figures and objects out of fondant
• Making gumpaste flowers
• Piping vintage style cakes 
• Decorating custom cookies

Responsibilities:

• Maintaining a positive and supportive kitchen environment
• Decorating cakes, cookies and cupcakes
• Taking new orders via phone, email and text
• Completing scheduled sales calls with customers

Secondary Responsibilities:

• Maintaining clean workspaces
• Helping with classes and workshops
• Assisting with store opening closing as appropriate 

Hours:

• We estimate an average of 20-30 hours per week, depending on our weekly number of orders
• Shifts will likely be 4-5 days per week

Pay:

• Hourly wage commensurate with experience
• Paid time off
